Rep. Pete King: Fully Supports Barr's Action on Asylum Seekers

Attorney General William Barr is "doing what has to be done" with his ruling that some illegal immigrants facing deportation must be held without bond as their cases play out, Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., said Wednesday.

"Our hearts go out to many people around the world, but we can't take everybody in and we have to look carefully at these asylum claims," Rep. King told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "As it turns out, many turn out not to be real, to be phony. It gets the person in the country, and they disappear or come back to years later for a court hearing. I think the attorney general is doing what has to be done and I fully support him."

The Department of Homeland Security has made several recommendations, including establishing regional processing centers and to have a Congress modify asylum proceedings so hearings and decisions can occur more quickly, and King said he agrees with the proposals.

King also commented about the upcoming release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report, noting he does not think it will take a long time to get a good idea of what it involves, as there will be experts in the White House and congressional offices going through it.

"I don't want to prejudge anything," King said. "From my experience and from seeing what attorney general Barr said, I know there will be no evidence at all of any collusion. When Democrats say not enough to show a criminal case, no. Nothing at all as far as collusion."
