The United States will continue its dominance in world affairs because as things look down, it manages to rise up and offer “wonderful things” like the tea party movement and Sarah Palin, said noted British historian Paul Johnson.

The 82-year-old author of “Modern Times,” nonetheless admits he does “worry about America,”
The Wall Street Journal reported.
Johnson said, “The whole world depends on America ultimately, particularly Britain. And also, I love America—a marvelous country. But in a sense I don't worry about America because I think America has such huge strengths—particularly its freedom of thought and expression—that it's going to survive as a top nation for the foreseeable future. And therefore take care of the world," the paper said.
Noting that America’s decline has been predicted since its founding, the noted historian said when things look dire, the United States “suddenly produces these wonderful things—like the Tea Party movement. That's cheered me up no end.”
He also praised the Tea Party movement for bringing in a “lot of very clever and quite young women into mainstream politics and got them elected. A very good little movement, that. I like it,” the Journal said.
He admired former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for her courage and said that without possessing courage like former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher or President Ronald Reagan “all the other virtues are no good at all. It’s the central virtue.”
“I like that lady—Sarah Palin. She's great. I like the cut of her jib," he added according to the paper.
