Pat Robertson to Dead Child's Mom: He Could Have Been Another Hitler

By    |   Tuesday, 09 June 2015 09:08 PM EDT

Evangelist Pat Robertson advised a woman to comfort a grieving co-worker whose 3-year-old child had died by telling her the toddler was spared a possible future as another Hitler, Stalin or serial killer.

In a segment of the 700 Club's "Bring It On" segment, where the 85-year-old evangelist takes emailed questions, one woman asked how she should respond to a bereft mother who couldn't believe in a God who would let her child die while healing other children.

"I told her that I don’t know why her child died, but God sees the whole picture [while] we see only in part," the woman writes in the email, according to a video posted by Right Wing Watch.

"What else can I say?

Robertson said human error was more likely to blame.

"More and more in the New Testament era, we have come to realize that human beings have an agency, that have responsibility, and a lot of things happen because humans do," Robertson said.

"I mean people die in hospitals because of medical malpractice – somebody cuts the wrong thing, somebody dies. It happens all the time. Nurse gives the patient the wrong medicine – are you going to blame that on God? That’s not God, that’s people making mistakes."

But Robertson then advised the woman to comfort her fellow worker by suggesting that God had stopped her child from turning into a murderous fiend.

"As far as God’s concerned, he knows the end from the beginning and He sees a little baby and that little baby could grow up to be Adolf Hitler, he could grow up to be Joseph Stalin, he could grow up to be some serial killer, or he could grow up to die of a hideous disease," Robertson said.

"God sees all of that, and for that life to be terminated while he’s a baby, he’s going to be with God forever in heaven so it isn't a bad thing.

"The good God is going to take that baby to Heaven right now, and that isn't a bad thing," he concluded.
