A majority of Americans think the federal government is making the coronavirus pandemic worse, according to a new poll.
An Axios-Ipsos poll released Tuesday shows there is also a partisan divide in the federal government's coronavirus response.
Poll results show:
- 60% of Americans say the federal government is making the coronavirus worse.
- 80% of Democrats say they federal government is making things worse.
- 74% of Republicans say the federal government is making things better.
- 68% of Independents say the government is making things worse.
When it comes to trusting the government, only 32% of Americans say they trust that the federal government is looking out for their best interests, according to the poll.
And when it comes to trusting President Donald Trump or his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, more people say they believe Biden will provide them with accurate information on the virus. Forty-five percent of people surveyed say they trust Biden's COVID-19 information, while only 31% say they trust Trump's virus information.
Despite the lack in trust, most Americans, 57%, say they are hopeful that the U.S. will get the pandemic under control in the next six months.
More Republicans are hopeful than Democrats. Poll results show that 82% of Republicans are hopeful things will be under control in six months compared to 42% of Democrats who said the same.
The poll surveyed 1,100 adults between Aug. 28-31. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percentage points.
