Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said Friday "there is no excuse" for the deaths of eight nursing home residents in the sweltering aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

In remarks to Fox News' "America's News Headquarters" show, Bondi said the Broward County State Attorney's Office "are all over" the investigation into the troubling deaths amid widespread power outages.

"All those family members have a right to know what happened," she said.

"I can tell you what's happening now," she added, saying the federal Agency for Health Care Administration is looking into all the nation's nursing home and the state of Florida are looking at "over 200" in Florida.

"I know Miami police officers during the hurricane were trying to get in as many as possible, bringing them water, making sure everybody was okay," she said. "You know what? There is no excuse for this. … And I hope people would abide by the law and take care of our elderly in the state of Florida."

Bondi also said there have been 11,080 complaints about price gouging during and after the hurricane barreled through the state, leaving millions without power.

"During a hurricane, its fuel water, hotels," she said. "After the hurricane, though, we are going to start seeing the trend become contracting scams."
