Palin Still Awaiting Invitation to Republican National Convention

By    |   Monday, 16 July 2012 02:52 PM EDT

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has yet to receive an invitation from Mitt Romney to speak at or attend the Republican National Convention next month in Tampa, Newsweek reports.

“What can I say?” Palin told Newsweek in an email. “I’m sure I’m not the only one accepting consequences for calling out both sides of the aisle for spending too much money, putting us on the road to bankruptcy, and engaging in crony capitalism.

“In accepting those consequences,” she added, “one must remember this isn’t Sadie Hawkins and you don’t invite yourself and a date to the Big Dance.”

According to the New York Daily News, Romney campaign officials did not respond to a question from Newsweek about Palin’s role at the convention. An adviser for the presumptive GOP presidential candidate said Palin, who has not been a strong Romney supporter, may be barred from speaking under the terms of her Fox News contract.

But the former vice presidential candidate – who last week encouraged Romney to “light our hair on fire” — questioned that rationale.

“It’s true I’m prohibited from doing some things,” Palin told Newsweek, “but this is the first I’ve heard anyone suggest that as an excuse, er, reason to stay away from engaging in the presidential race.

“I’m quite confident Fox’s top brass would never strip anyone of their First Amendment rights in this regard.”
