Palin Blasts GOP Senators Who Voted for Immigration Bill

By    |   Friday, 28 June 2013 04:48 PM EDT

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin hit hard at the 14 GOP senators who voted for the immigration reform bill in a Facebook posting Friday.

"Great job, GOP establishment," the Republican and Fox News contributor wrote. "You've just abandoned the Reagan Democrats with this amnesty bill."

Supporters of the bill have misread the 2012 election results, Palin said. "It was the loss of working-class voters in swing states that cost us the 2012 election, not the Hispanic vote," she wrote.

Palin's wording suggests that many Hispanics don't support the bill.

"Legal immigrants respect the rule of law and see how self-centered a politician must be to fill this amnesty bill with favors, earmarks and crony capitalists' pork, and call it good," she said. "You disrespect Hispanics with your assumption that they desire ignoring the rule of law.”

Palin has harshly criticized immigration reform in recent days, going after the substance of the bill and individual Republicans who backed it, such as Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, who, she said, should be challenged in their primaries when they next face election.

The Senate bill passed by a vote of 68-32 with 14 Republicans joining the Democrat majority. But the GOP's House leadership says it won't consider the legislation and is working on a much narrower proposal instead.

"It will be, essentially, dead on arrival. The House of Representatives has made clear that they want to do this the right way, which is through a step-by-step approach," Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
