President Donald Trump posted a tweet on Tuesday requesting that Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler "call up the National Guard like should have been done 3 months ago."

He added in a follow-up tweet that "they must stop calling these anarchists and agitators 'peaceful protestors.' Come back into the real world! The Federal Government is ready to end this problem immediately upon your request."

The president's tweets continue a theme he has been promoting since the demonstrations began and come a night after Oregon Republicans highlighted the issue at the Republican National Convention, according to OPB.

At the traditional roll call of states to nominate Trump, state GOP Chairman Bill Currier said that "In stark contrast to our governor and the feckless mayor of Portland, along with the Democrat presidential candidate in hiding, President Trump has stood up to the violent thugs and those who seek to destabilize our state with anarchy and destruction, giving us hope we can make Oregon safe again."

The president and other conservatives have repeatedly lashed out at Oregon leaders, who are Dermocrats, insisting that they have not done nearly enough to control and contain illegal acts at the nightly demonstrations.
