'The View' Hosts Jump in on Bullying Pence's Religious Faith

The liberal hosts on ABC's "The View" on Tuesday leaped to the defense of former Trump administration aide Omarosa Manigualt Newman, touting her "Celebrity Big Brother" comments on Vice President Mike Pence's "scary" Christianity.

A clip of the exchange was posted by the conservative media watchdog Newsbusters.

After playing the clip from the reality show on which Omarosa is one of the stars, the panel mocked Pence's faith, with host Sunny Hostin, who identified herself as Catholic, called Pence's Christianity "dangerous."

"When you have a Mike Pence who now puts this religious veneer on things and who calls people values voters, I think we're this a dangerous situation," she said. "Look, I'm Catholic. I'm a faithful person, but I don't know that I want my vice president speaking in tongues and having Jesus speak to him."

Joy Behar jumped in, suggesting Pence might be more mental than religious.

"Like I said before, it's one thing to talk to Jesus; it's another thing when Jesus talks to you," she said.

"That's called mental illness, if I'm not correct. Hearing voices,” Behar added.

Hostin also asked, "Do we want our politics served to us with a religious veneer over it?" deriding Pence for calling President Donald Trump's White House a "values-driven administration."

Conservative member Meghan McCain pushed back, however, addressing Hostin as a "liberal" who has a different worldview than Pence.

"I don't know how to say this in a way that doesn't sound disrespectful," McCain said. "But I understand, if you're a liberal, obviously you have certain problems with Mike Pence. Obviously. We see the world through very different veneers."

"Why am I a liberal?" Hostin countered.

"I just assumed you were because . . ." McCain replied.

"That's not a very great assumption," Hostin scolded.

"There's very few things you have said on this show that show me," McCain concluded. "I apologize, you're conservative, I guess. I'm not in this fight today."
