Oklahoma's Labor Commissioner, Mark Costello, was stabbed to death at a fast food restaurant in Oklahoma City on Sunday evening, and police arrested his son, local broadcasters reported.

The father-of-five was seen stumbling out of the restaurant in the northwest part of the city and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said, according to ABC-affiliate Channel 8.

Costello's 26-year-old son Christian was arrested in connection with the death, local broadcaster News 9 said, citing Oklahoma City police captain Paco Balderrama.

"So sorry to hear the tragic news about Mark Costello," Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett said on Twitter.

U.S. Senator James Lankford, of Oklahoma, praised Costello's record.

"Mark was passionate about our nation, conservative fiscal principles, and the people of our state," he said in a statement.

Police earlier said one family member had stabbed another family member at least four times with a knife after the pair agreed to meet at the restaurant following a confrontation earlier in the day.

Costello was elected to run the state's Department of Labor in November 2010, according to a state website. He and his wife, Cathy, have been married for 33 years.
