LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Thousands of mourners, including police officers from across the country, will gather to say goodbye to a New Jersey police officer who was fatally shot last week behind the wheel of his patrol car.
The funeral for Lakewood Patrolman Christopher Matlosz will begin at noon Thursday at St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Lakewood.
So many police officers plan to attend that organizers are having them gather in the parking lot of a minor league baseball stadium more than two miles away. They will be bused to the church.
A 19-year-old from Lakewood is charged with murdering the officer.
A close friend of Matlosz plans to deliver a eulogy asking the slain officer to look over his friends from heaven.
