Obama Gets His Romneys Confused

Tuesday, 05 June 2012 02:03 PM EDT

President Barack Obama mistakenly called his Republican opponent Mitt Romney by his father’s name — George — at a campaign event in New York City Monday.

"George Romney," Obama said, as he began to discuss the former Massachusetts governor. "Uh, . . . Gov. Romney," Politico reports. Actually that didn’t really clarify matters, as George Romney too was a governor — of Michigan.

While Obama apparently just suffered a slip of the tongue, Democrats have tried to use George Romney, who also was head of American Motors and ran for president, against Mitt. They have sought to portray him as part of his father’s era and out of touch with the present.
