President Barack Obama's designation of lands and waters as national monuments has amounted to more than 553 million acres over his eight years as president, which would cover the state of Texas three times, according to Media Research Center's MRC TV.

MRC TV said that the Utah legislature opposed a move in Utah for the Bears Ears monument.

"Utah's state legislature, however, opposed the unilateral land grab across party lines, with many speculating that Obama's move is the latest in an attempt to limit efforts from incoming President Donald Trump to expand domestic energy production."

While Obama created a marine preserve off the coast of Hawaii in the summer of 2016, reports show that it deprived the local fishing industry of $10 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"Closing off large parts of the ocean to fishermen… it is overreach," Eric Kingma, a coordinator with the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council, said in the Journal's report.

Using the Antiquities Act of 1906, Obama set up more than 260 million acres as federally protected areas in 2016 alone, including a 100-million acre area in Alaska, about the size of New Mexico, MRC TV reported.

While the act has been used 154 times since it was created, Obama's use of it has amounted to 20 percent of the total, according to the National Parks Conservation Association.

Brittany Hughes, reporter for MRC TV, slammed the president's actions, writing, "The self-aggrandizing conservationist-in-chief has placed more land and coastal areas under federal control than any other president in history, shutting off millions of miles of land to energy production or human settlement, along with shifting it outside the scope of local and state jurisdictions."
