RNC Delegate: A 'Myth' Democrats Are India-Friendly

A top Indian-American fundraiser for the GOP charged on Monday that President Barack Obama was anti-India and that Mitt Romney would better enhance relationships between the two nations.

"President Obama is very critical of outsourcing jobs to India, and work visas from India for IT companies are being gradually dispensed with,” Dr. Sampat Shivangi, among three Indian-American delegates to the Republican National Convention, told the Press Trust of India. “It's only a myth that Democrats are India-friendly.”

Shivangi, the President of Indian American Forum for Political Education, is a major GOP fundraiser in Mississippi. He helped raise $1.7 million for Romney in the state, surpassing the $1.2 million that was collected for former President George W. Bush.

Shivangi also helped raise those funds. He has been an RNC delegate for 12 years, the Press Trust of India reports.

Romney, Shivangi said, declared at the RNC in Tampa, Fla., in August that India was a critical US ally. The former Massachusetts governor also plans to release a White House paper on India, he said.

"President Obama's tirade against India on outsourcing has really changed his image in majority of the Indian-Americans,” Shivangi told the Press Trust of India. “His television advertisements – day in, day out – have taken the warpath to disgrace India as the problem for joblessness in the US, which is untrue.”
