Obama Flip-Flops on Campaign Financing

Americans can be forgiven if they’re confused as to where President Barack Obama stands on federal financing of presidential elections. In the 2008 campaign, he pledged not to accept private money and then reversed that stance.

Obama, campaign, finance, public, privateAnd now the White House opposes a Republican-sponsored bill to end federal funding of presidential campaigns, The Hill reports. “The administration strongly opposes House passage of H.R. 359 because it is critical that the nation’s presidential election public financing system be fixed rather than dismantled,” according to a statement released by the Office of Management and Budget.”

But the statement didn’t go so far as to threaten a veto of the bill. The legislation is expected to reach the House floor this week.
