Kevin Jennings, who has been appointed by President Barack Obama to a top Department of Education post, is the founder of an organization dedicated to promoting pro-homosexual clubs and curricula in public schools.
Jennings has been named assistant deputy secretary of education in charge of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.
He founded the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), a prime force behind the creation of "gay-straight alliance" clubs in high schools and junior highs around the country, CNSNews reported.
Gay-straight alliances are student organizations that advocate for lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgendered rights on school campuses.
According to GLSEN's Web site, the organization's mission since 1994 has been to "assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression."
GLSEN publishes a manual, "The Jump Start Guide," that instructs teenagers and some pre-teens how to form gay-straight alliances.
In the manual's section on transgender individuals, it suggests that teenage students "leave a blank line on forms that your student club or school uses when asking for gender, rather than having only two boxes for female and male."
The guide equates "covert discrimination" against gays with "overt discrimination" such as "membership in the KKK" and "slavery."
GLSEN claims to have registered more than 4,000 gay-straight alliances.
Jennings, who left GLSEN in late November, received praise from Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, in a June 1 speech at GLSEN's annual awards gathering.
"Starting next month, [Education] Secretary [Arne] Duncan will have an excellent partner in this work," Biden said, referring to Jennings' appointment.
But Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, called Jennings a "social revolutionary" and said GLSEN espouses ideas that "are antagonistic to family values and to millions of Christian parents and others opposed to the homosexual agenda."
He told CNSNews: "More than any other homosexual activist group, GLSEN is responsible for the promotion and acceptance of homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality in schools. And Kevin Jennings is the man behind it."
