Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton is no fan of arming teachers to keep America's schoolchildren safe, a proposal brought up Wednesday during a White House discussion on school shootings.

Bratton, whose lengthy police career includes leading the Boston, New York City (twice), and the Los Angeles Police Departments, aired his thoughts regarding the idea on Twitter Thursday afternoon:

Americans from both sides of the political aisle are calling for action after last Wednesday's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Fourteen children and three staff members were killed by a gunman.

President Donald Trump listened to stories from students who were inside the school at a White House workshop this week as he tries to work with lawmakers on bipartisan legislation that will help ensure school safety.

Trump talked about arming certain teachers and staff members in schools, an idea that's received pushback.
