President Trump is the most powerful man in the free world, but he is not No. 1 in his hometown of New York City, according to power rankings complied by City & State magazine.
Trump lags behind Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, according to the magazine's annual rankings.
"President Donald Trump is the leader of the free world, the commander-in-chief of the strongest military on the globe and the subject of perhaps the most media attention in history – but he's not the most powerful politician in New York," the magazine said.
"How can that be? Quite simply, his scope is far broader than the five boroughs. He represents a much larger constituency than the voters of New York City."
Some Trump policies threaten to alter or undermine the "status quo in New York City," according to the report.
"The potential repeal and replacement of Obamacare could leave many New Yorkers without healthcare or force city and state officials to scramble to fill a massive budget gap," the magazine wrote.
As for Schumer, the magazine said the Senate minority leader "has always been a fierce defender of New York's interests, but he will now have to balance that with the competing priorities of senators from Massachusetts to Montana."
"Schumer's U.S. Senate minority is the last bastion of actual Democratic power," the magazine said. "How he wields that power remains to be see, but millions of Americans – and New Yorkers – will be watching and waiting."
Coming in fifth place in the rankings was U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.
