President Donald Trump was harshly criticized Sunday night by Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak for violating state regulations by holding a campaign rally indoors with thousands of people, NBC News reported.

Sisolak slammed the president, who held his first indoor rally in months in Henderson, Nevada, with most of the attendees not wearing face coverings.

The governor said in a lengthy thread on Twitter that "As usual, he doesn't believe the rules apply to him" and accused Trump of "reckless and selfish actions" that are also “shameful, dangerous and irresponsible.”

He emphasized in the thread that “This is an insult to every Nevadan who has followed the directives, made sacrifices, and put their neighbors before themselves. It's also a direct threat to all of the recent progress we've made and could potentially set us back."

Sisolak pointed out in another tweet that the president “disregarded the emergency directives … by hosting an indoor gathering that’s categorized as 'high risk' according to his own CDC.”

In response to the criticism, Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said that "If you can join tens of thousands of people protesting in the streets, gamble in a casino, or burn down small businesses in riots, you can gather peacefully under the 1st Amendment to hear from the president of the United States," according to NBC.

Trump also held a rally on Saturday on the tarmac of a Nevada airport, where most people were also not wearing masks or practicing social distancing.
