Man Kneels During National Anthem at White House Event

A man took a knee during the national anthem at President Donald Trump's "Celebration of America" event Tuesday as an uproar continued over NFL social injustice protests during the song.

The gesture was recorded in both a video and photo posted to social media.

The video was shot by a television reporter for SVT, Sweden's national public television broadcast, and showed the man kneeling as the United States Marine Band plays "The Star-Spangled Banner." The man then applauds and stands as the song ends.

The playing of the national anthem was followed by brief remarks from Trump, who spoke for about three minutes about the importance of standing for the national anthem, USA Today noted.

The event was planned after Trump on Monday night disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles from attending a White House celebration amid reports that less than 10 players planned to attend.

Trump did not mention the Eagles or the NFL in his remarks, but he said the event was "even bigger than we had anticipated."

Earlier Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders blamed the Eagles for the last-minute change and referred to it as "a political stunt" by the organization.
