Hollywood's Islamic community is on edge following Dr. Ben Carson's opinion that a Muslim should not be elected president and Donald Trump's failure to refute a supporter who ripped Muslims and said Barack Obama is not an American,
TheWrap.com reports.
"It's safe to make Islam the enemy. I'm not surprised that many in Hollywood remained silent on that," actor Faran Tahir, who's appeared in "Iron Man," "Star Trek" and "The Jungle Book," told the leading showbiz blog.
Tahir said it's alarming that support for both GOP presidential candidates seems to have increased since those controversies.
"When people like Carson and Trump say this kind of stuff and get financial support because of it, it does make you question your ability to go on. I won't lie about that," he said.
And Kamran Pasha, a Pakistan-born, Brooklyn-raised screenwriter whose credits include "Sleeper Cell" and "Twilight Zone," told The Wrap.com, "It's unfortunate. I often joke that everyone in Hollywood is liberal until they meet me."
TheWrap.com — run by former New York Times Hollywood correspondent Sharon Waxman — says The Muslim Public Affairs Council's Hollywood Bureau, has been receiving calls and emails from industry insiders offering support.
