MSNBC Numbers Plummet

By    |   Wednesday, 31 July 2013 01:23 PM EDT

MSNBC's viewer numbers continue to plummet, having been in freefall since last summer, and most recently when the network struggled covering breaking news in the Boston Marathon bombings, according to Breitbart.

Citing the most recent Nielsen ratings report, Breitbart noted that the progressive cable news network's total viewers has decreased by 12 percent since last July, and by 4 percent in the highly-coveted 25-to-54 age demographic.

There was some good news for the network. The Martin Bashir program, "Hardball with Chris Matthews," and "The Cycle," each had slight viewer increases.

The "Morning Joe" program hosted by former Florida Republican Rep. Joe Scarborough lost only 4 percent of its total viewers but 8 percent of those in 25-to-54 age group.

The shows hosted by Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell all took major hits over the last year. Hayes lost 27 percent of total viewers, O'Donnell was down 29 percent, and Maddow lost 19 percent.

MSNBC ranks fourth in total viewer numbers, behind Fox News, CNN, and HLN.
