The ratings skid continues at MSNBC, with the cable network being beaten earlier this week by even Al Jazeera America (AJAM) for a short time and plummeting among the crucial 25-54 demographic group, Mediaite reported.

"What's especially noteworthy about a network like AJAM beating out MSNBC for two hours is that, just 16 months ago, the Qatar-owned network was bringing in a zero demo rating during its prime-time hours," Mediaite said.

The most recent quarterly ratings report showed just how far MSNBC has fallen as it posted the "lowest quarterly demo numbers in a decade, and its total viewership since the final quarter of 2007," Politico reported.

As the network scrambles to reconfigure its lineup and has let go anchors like Ronan Farrow, among others, the deep climb it faces became apparent with the latest numbers report. Prime-time viewership fell off 45 percent in the demo and daytime viewership dipped 39 percent, Politico said.

When Hillary Clinton made her public response to explain the use of her private email accounts for public business, the liberal news outlet held just 13 percent of the cable audience, Politico said of its failure to capture its left-leaning viewers at a key political moment.

With its overall daytime ratings down 21 percent for the year, MSNBC is behind Fox News, CNN and HLN, CNN's sister network, as a new NBC News Group chairman, Andrew Lack, steps aboard to likely create more news programming and less personality-driven squawking, Politico said of the shake-up.

Even MSNBC's stars are failing to capture their time slot audiences, Deadline Hollywood noted.

"The Rachel Maddow Show" fell to its lowest quarter ratings since it launched in September 2008, dropping off 46 percent in the key 25-54 year old demographic, it said. Also hitting low points since their programming debuts were "All In With Chris Hayes" and "Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell."

Added Deadline Hollywood: The 7 p.m. show "Hardball with Chris Matthews" posted the "lowest-rated quarter in the demo since 2Q 2005 with an average viewership of 126,000."
