Bob Goen, who co-hosted "Miss Universe 1996," says Donald Trump's comments about the weight gain of pageant winner Alicia Machado were "inexcusable."

Trump's insults — including calling Machado "Miss Piggy" and an "eating machine" — were recalled by Hillary Clinton during last month’s first presidential debate.

"I think his position is inexcusable. I thought it was self-serving. I'm not a fan of the way this was handled," Goen told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Thursday.

Goen also recalled that Machado was "really enjoying the moment. She was enjoying her chance to shine in the spotlight" after being declared winner of the pageant Trump owned at the time.

"She seemed very upbeat and she seemed comfortable with the position and that was it."
