A fatal shooting at a Family Dollar store in Flint, Michigan may have started after a dispute over a face mask, according to Michigan State Police, who are still investigating the incident.

Calvin Munerlyn, 43, was shot while working as a security guard at the store last Friday. He died shortly after the incident at a local hospital. No arrests have been made, but witnesses told local NBC affiliate 25 News that the shooter, described as a thin man dressed in black jeans and a black sweatshirt with white tennis shoes, ran from the store after shooting Munerlyn, and was seen going into the high rise apartments located behind it.

Reports soon emerged on social media claiming that the shooting came after the guard told a customer that they had to wear a face mask, but police have yet to verify these claims.

“We’re seeing a lot of these reports on social media, so we're investigating them," Michigan State Police 1st Lt. David Kaiser told the Detroit News on Sunday. "We'll talk to all the potential witnesses."

Munerlyn is survived by his wife and eight children.
