Miami-Dade County gyms won’t close down again after all.

Miami Mayor Carlos Gimenez tweeted Tuesday morning that gyms and fitness studios will remain open.

On Monday, the mayor announced he would shut down some of the businesses that had reopened because coronavirus cases had spiked. Gyms were on the list of businesses slated to close down again on Wednesday.

But Gimenez posted that after a productive virtual meeting with medical experts and the county’s Wellness Group, he decided on a “compromise” to keep gyms and fitness studios open.

In order for gyms to remain open, masks must be worn inside. Outdoor training must be done with social distancing of at least 10 feet in between people. Masks are not required when exercising outdoors, he wrote.
