First lady Melania Trump announced via Twitter that she will be attending President Donald Trump's briefing on the opioid crisis on Tuesday.

The president had tweeted earlier on Tuesday about the briefing.

Trump is holding the meeting while vacationing at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J.

The state's governor, Chris Christie, is chairman of the president's opioid commission, which issued a report last month urging the declaration of a national emergency so that the cabinet would be empowered "to take bold steps and would force Congress to focus on funding and empowering the executive branch even further to deal with this loss of life," The Hill reported.

Melania Trump's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told the Washington Examiner that "Opioid abuse is an escalating health crisis affecting countless families across the country. The well-being of children is a priority for the first lady, and this epidemic affects them in many different ways so she requested to attend today's briefing."
