Meghan McCain told Politico that she had a "very nice" conversation with President Donald Trump, during which he indicated he would back off from attacking her cancer-stricken father, Sen. John McCain.

"I don't believe he would go there again," Meghan McCain told Politico. "I don't think at this point in his administration it would be beneficial to him in any way."

Sen. McCain and the president have tangled often during the first year of Trump's administration, most notably over the repeal of Obamacare.

Though Trump has apparently softened his stance on Sen. McCain, Meghan McCain isn't reciprocating, telling Politico she's "confused" by the role of Ivanka Trump in the White House.

"The part that I find confusing about [Ivanka] is that she works in the administration; she has an office in the White House, and she has claimed not to be a political person," McCain said. "You're an adviser to your father, who also happens to be the president, and you're not a political person? I don't like things like that."

Sen. McCain remains at home in Arizona battling the side effects of treatment for glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. McCain was reportedly going to return to Capitol Hill sometime in January.

"He's made this really incredible comeback," Meghan McCain told Politico. "I think it's a very high likelihood he'll come back to D.C. at some point."
