Meadows: 'Good Day' for Americans if FISA Memo Is Released

By    |   Thursday, 01 February 2018 02:13 PM

It will be a "good day for the American people" if a GOP memo alleging the FBI misused federal law to get a warrant allowing it to spy on a former campaign aide for President Donald Trump, Rep. Mark Meadows, who chairs the House Freedom Caucus, said Thursday.

"It may be a disappointment for Democrats and the FBI but I believe it will be a good day for the American people as we start to see the rest of the story," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

Meadows said that he could not comment on specifics involved in the memo until it's unclassified, but he would say that if it didn't have specifics and or names, it would "not be real meaningful tot he American people."

The congressman said he's one of the few people who has read a Democratic memo, which the Republican-led committee would not release, and he would also agree to releasing that if "some of the factual errors and sourcing issues" are corrected.

"Nothing in their memo contradicts what was in the original Republican memo, and that's important if this is released," said Meadows. "Even the FBI did not find any factual inaccuracies in the memo when they reviewed it."

Meadows also denied that Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-California made substantial changes to the memo before sending it to the White House, as Democratic committee member Rep. Adam Schiff has claimed.

"He stands by the memo," said Meadows "I stand by him in his constitutional duty to actually inform the American people."
