Political wives who stand by their husbands after a sex scandal erupts are demeaning to women, said radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.
"Huma Abedin is doing everything she can to make sure that women are seen as stepping stones and doormats," Limbaugh said Wednesday about the wife of Anthony Weiner, the New York City mayoral candidate and former congressman who resigned in 2011 after a sexting scandal.
"Democrat women lead the way in showing other women how to be stepped on and diminished by men. That's what they do, for a payoff somewhere down the line," Limbaugh said on his radio show, responding to Abedin's first public comments, made Tuesday as details emerged of a new sex scandal involving her husband.

"It's a resume enhancement for the Democrat Party, and these women standing by, making it cool, making it acceptable, making it noble, making it common. You want to talk about setting an example for young women everywhere?" Limbaugh said.
Limbaugh included Abedin on the list of prominent Democratic political spouses who stood by their husbands when faced with scandal, such as Silda Wall Spitzer, Elizabeth Edwards, and Hillary Clinton, for whom Abedin worked at the Department of State.
As for the broader message about what Abedin's actions say about Democrats, Limbaugh said, "These are the same people running this so-called political movement that the Republicans have this war on women going on. Well, it is not us, folks, that are making a mockery of women. It's not us using them. It's not us chewing 'em up and spitting 'em out."
