LIGNET: US at Risk of Losing Control Over Internet

Top administration officials joined Vinton Cerf, one of the founding fathers of the Internet, last week in testifying before Congress on the dangers posed by an international effort underway to transfer control of the Internet from the United States to the United Nations. They expressed their fear that an upcoming UN conference in Dubai could be a game-changer with terrible consequences for the independence of the Internet. Their fears are well placed, as the signing of a document in Dubai, even one that doesn't have the support of the United States, could potentially cause big problems for the free flow of information on which the world now depends.
