A contract dispute with the Trump Organization resulted in the U.S. Secret Service moving its Trump Tower command post from one floor below President Donald Trump's apartment to the sidewalk.

The Washington Post reports that the Secret Service vacated the space it was leasing from the president's company in early July.

The Post reports that the cost and the lease conditions were factors in the decision for moving the command post, which houses supervisors and standby agents if an emergency happens, more than 50 floors away from Trump's apartment.

A trailer positioned on the sidewalk now serves as the command post, which could be problematic in the event of an emergency. Backup agents will be farther away and the building's walls could interfere with radio transmissions.

"It's a security deficiency that has to be resolved," a former Secret Service official told the Post. "It's like having the quarterback of the football game actually being located in a different stadium than where the game is being played."

The military is also leasing space in Trump Tower at the rate of $130,000 per month, according to The Wall Street Journal. The owner of that space, however, is not affiliated with the Trump Organization.

The White House Military Office uses the space to provide various types of support for the president.

Trump's wife Melania and son Barron lived in the family's Trump Tower apartment during the first half of 2017 until Barron's school year ended. The president has yet to return to Trump Tower since he took office in January.
