Gun Advocate Pratt: Bloomberg's Anti-Gun Effort 'Arrogant'

A gun rights advocate is calling New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to spend $25 million in the 2014 election to boost gun control the "arrogance of power" and said he is doubtful the plan will work.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, pointed to the November recall vote in Colorado, in which two members of the state legislature were ousted from office even though Bloomberg's group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, spent $350,000 to keep them in office.

"He outspent the candidates that won in Colorado enormously and he lost," Pratt said. "So I think the message is, 'We don’t like the arrogance of power. We don’t like the message that we ought to be disarmed as a way of fighting crime.'"

Every recent mass murder has occurred where guns are prohibited, Pratt said.

"The legislation that is on the books is lethal," he said. "It is killing people."

Bloomberg's office responded to the New York Post, citing the mayor's crime-fighting record.

"Under Mayor Bloomberg, New York City is America’s safest big city with murders at an all-time low – thanks to innovative, proactive policing and tough laws that get illegal guns and criminals off our streets," Deputy Press Secretary Kamran Mumtaz told the Post.
