Report: Newtown Shooter Edited Mass Shooting Sites Online

Tuesday, 02 July 2013 06:59 AM EDT

School shooter Adam Lanza edited entries about mass shootings and sought information about guns and bullets.

Investigators found posts on gun message boards and online gaming sites they believe to be Lanza, The Hartford Courant reports.

The newspaper found the Wikipedia posts by someone using the same username, and investigators are now looking into those posts. The Courant did not reveal the username.

There were multiple corrections to Wikipedia entries on mass killings spanning decades. One, at ESL Inc. in 1988, was edited four times by the user believed to be Lanza. There were several similarities to that case and the Newtown, Conn., shootings in which Lanza killed 20 children and six staff members before killing himself.

ESL shooter Richard Farley had more than 1,000 rounds of ammuntion on a vest and was wearing earplugs. He shot through a glass door to get into the company. Lanza, with multiple rounds in a vest and wearing earplugs, shot through the glass windows of the school to gain entry.

On a gun message board, the user asked if a Connecticut ban on certain semi-automatic guns also applied to other weapons.

When another user suggests he talk to the Connecticut State Police to find out, he replies, " I always prefer asking through proxy when I can avoid speaking to someone directly. I was just wondering if anyone knew because I have a fetish for .32 ACP" – a type of ammunition.

In another post, the same user writes: "In Connecticut, fully automatic firearms are legal to own but selective fire is prohibited. I vaguely recall reading … about a company which alters them to fire exclusively automatically (or something in that vein), but I don't know how that process works. For example, with whom would I correspond to modify a Title II M2 Carbine that is currently in another state to fire fully automatically before it is sent to Connecticut?"
