A Missouri health official said massive pool parties at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks held over Memorial Day weekend did not result in any additional new coronavirus cases, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, said despite partiers packing into pool parties, there have been no new cases of the virus reported.

“The answer, to our knowledge, is no,” Williams said Wednesday during Missouri Gov. Mike Parson’s daily press briefing, according to the newspaper.

One man, who spent time at a pool party, did test positive for the virus. But that is the only case state official say they are aware of.

But some officials say more time is needed before declaring the area in the clear.

Leader of the St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force Dr. Alex Garza said officials “will give it a couple more days” to see if any infections linked to the pool parties pop up.

Throngs of people did not wear masks, ignored social distancing guidelines and packed into pool parties over the holiday weekend. Health officials requested party-goers to self-quarantine and get tested for COVID-19. Officials in St. Louis issued a travel advisory after videos and photos of the partying circulated.

Parson said the state’s number of cases and hospitalizations are trending downward.

“Our hospitals are not overwhelmed. Our positivity rate continues to decline. People are recovering, and we are moving forward,” he said.
