Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., whose opposition to progressives’ demand for free college has been criticized as a GOP “talking point,” on Sunday said she regretted not emphasizing her support of a free ride for one- and two-year degrees.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Klobuchar defended her premise that she opposes the aid and she stands by her insistence that we shouldn't be “sending rich kids to college for free.”
“I've had this since the beginning… and made my mark with this position,” she said. “But I would have done a different ad that might have brought people with me more.”
“What would I make free? The one- and two-year degrees,” she said. “Why? Fastest growing area of jobs. There is not a shortage of CEO’s…. We won't have a shortage of MBAs or CEOs, we'll have a shortage of plumbers in the next 10 years and 74,000 openings for electric [industry jobs] and a million openings for home health care workers.”
