HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A spokesman for Connecticut's child protection agency says officals had doubts years ago about the true identity of a girl who was snapped as an infant from a New York City hospital in 1987 and raised under a false name in Bridgeport.
Department of Children and Families spokesman Gary Kleeblatt said Saturday that the agency opened a file involving the then-teenage Carlina White in 2005 and provided housing and other assistance to the family. He said the agency reached out to law enforcement regarding the identity of the girl's biological parents. He said he could not say what prompted those questions.
The DCF inquiry was first reported by The Hartford Courant.
White was recently reunited with her birth mother. The Raleigh, N.C., woman who raised her was charged last week with kidnapping.
