White House adviser Kellyanne Conway defended Vice President Mike Pence’s editorial in The Wall Street Journal in which he criticized the "fear mongering" media for creating panic that a second wave of the coronavirus was spreading nationwide, telling Fox News on Wednesday that the country should be made more aware of the great progress that has been achieved in combating the coronavirus.

Conway said that what Pence is making clear, and what shouldn't be overlooked, is that the administration has made incredible progress in this battle.

Until there is a vaccine, the public needs to continue to follow the health guidelines, she said, but at the same time “We don’t want people to be so afraid that they don’t leave their homes. So afraid that they don’t reopen their small businesses. So afraid of the hypocrisy that exists that it’s okay if you are protesting about something and you’re shoulder to shoulder with no mask, and it’s not okay if you happen to go to a Trump rally or you happen to be dining at a small business in your community.”

Conway emphasized that “we shouldn’t be Covid-shaming people, as the president has said it, but we’ve been vigilant on this.”

She also defended the “incredible job” that Pence has done in leading the coronavirus task force, adding “the president put him in that role because the president knew how important that role would be.”
