The wife of Vice President Mike Pence spoke out regarding controversial comments made by South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg about his homosexuality.

Karen Pence was on "The Brian Kilmeade Show" on Tuesday to discuss her new book, "Marlon Bundo's Day in the Nation's Capital," when she was asked about Buttigieg's remarks about her husband.

Over the weekend, Buttigieg — who worked with the vice president when the latter was serving as Indiana governor — said whatever beef Pence has with Buttigieg for being gay is a battle between Pence and God.

"They really have always had a great relationship," Karen Pence said. "In our country, you shouldn't be attacked for what your religious beliefs are. And I think kids need to learn that from a young age. That this is OK, no matter what faith people have, we don't attack them for their faith."

Host Brian Kilmeade then played a clip of Buttigieg's comments, in which he said:

"If me being gay was a choice, it was a choice that was made far, far above my pay grade. And that's the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world would understand. That if you got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me — your quarrel, sir, is with my creator."

Pence responded by saying her husband likes Buttigieg and has no issues with him.

"It's kinda funny because I don't think the vice president does have a problem with him," she said. "But I think it's helping Pete to get some notoriety by saying that about the vice president."
