Huckabee to NFL: Tackle America-Bashing Grid Stars or Risk Fan Flight

The National Football League must lower the boom on grid stars who "insult" the United States or risk pigskin-passionate Americans abandoning the game in droves, Mike Huckabee warned.

"The NFL had better wake up quickly," the former Arkansas governor said Thursday on his Facebook page.

"Americans these days have a lot of options to fill their leisure time, and if they keep letting their star football players insult America, they may be surprised at how quickly baseball makes a comeback."

Huckabee’s remarks come as the fallout continues over Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers refusing to stand for the National Anthem at games to protest racism and police shootings.

Other players have since come out in support of the quarterback and so far, the NFL says players are not obligated to rise to their feet during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

That stance is about to backfire for the beloved national sport, Huckabee believes, who dropped out of the race for GOP presidential nominee earlier this year and now supports party nominee Donald Trump.

"Remember when we were hearing all that talk about how football had replaced baseball as 'America’s game?'" he said.

"That was before the SJW [social justice warrior] crowd moved in, and game officials began kowtowing to the most radical PC demands. Nobody wants a big dose of in-your-face leftwing politics with their chicken wings.

"Americans are fed up with seeing athletes disrespect the country that allowed them to become millionaires and celebrities by kneeling during the national anthem."

Huckabee said a Twitter protest #BoycottNFL is growing fast, while TV ratings plummet.

"Forbes reports that just last year, TV ratings for football hit all-time records, and this year, they've plummeted. Overall, 'Monday Night Football's' ratings are down 19 percent from last year," Huckabee said.

"Gee, who would've imaged that arrogance, ingratitude and lack of patriotism wouldn't go over well with middle American football fans?"
