CNN: DOJ Ready to Sue Ferguson Cops for Discrimination

By    |   Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015 09:55 PM

The Justice Department is reportedly ready to sue Ferguson, Mo., police if they don't agree to change alleged discriminatory practices.

Though it's expected there won't be any charges brought against former Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, for the Aug. 9 shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, the Justice Department will outline findings allegedly showing a pattern of discriminatory tactics, CNN reports.

Wilson has since resigned from the Ferguson police force.

If Ferguson police don't agree to review and revise the outlined tactics, the Justice Department would sue to force them to do so, CNN reports, citing unnamed sources.
The issues covered in the Justice suit would cover allegations that police in Ferguson and nearby Jennings targeted minorities with minor traffic infractions and then jailed them when they couldn't pay their fines, CNN reports.

A grand jury's decision not to indict Wilson last November triggered two days of rioting in Ferguson, and weeks of protests around the country.

Attorney General Eric Holder hinted Tuesday at plans to finally announce results of his department's civil rights probe of the Brown shooting and Ferguson police department, CNN reports.

"I think everybody will see when we announce our results that the process that we have engaged in is, as I said back at the time when I went to Ferguson, independent, thorough and based on all the facts," he said in a speech at the National Press Club.

"And I am confident that people will be satisfied with the results that will be announced."
