More than 300 new prosecutors are being added to the Justice Department – "the largest increase in decades," The Hill is reporting.

The move will "increase resources to combat violent crime, enforce our immigration laws, and help roll back the devastating opioid crisis," the department announced in a statement.

The hires will include about 190 violent crime prosecutors, 86 civil enforcement prosecutors, and 35 immigration prosecutors, the website said.

"These exceptional and talented prosecutors are key leaders in our crime-fighting partnership," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said. "This addition of new assistant U.S. attorney positions represents the largest increase in decades."

USA Today reported the new positions will cost the Justice Department about $72 million.
