President Donald Trump has reportedly narrowed the list of candidates for White House chief of staff down to five.

At a meeting with governors-elect at the White House, Trump called the finalists to replace the departing John Kelly "really good ones" and "terrific people," The Washington Times reported.

High on his wish list for the next chief of staff is "somebody that thinks like I do – it's my vision, after all," he told Fox News earlier Thursday.

Trump told Reuters on Tuesday he was considering between 10 and 12 people. The decision is expected by the end of the year, when Kelly leaves.

Among those believed to have made the final cut are former Trump campaign adviser David Bossie, former New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie, acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, and Energy Secretary Rick Perry, The Hill reported.

The new pick will be the president's third chief of staff in two years.
