Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich is attempting to capitalize on his job as a CNN political commentator by asking for donations for his political action committee that supports multiple candidates for office.

Amid reports Kasich is pondering the idea of running for president again in 2020, The Hill reported Thursday that Kasich supporters received an email that referenced his most recent appearance on CNN and solicited money.

"We are excited about what this means for Gov. Kasich and his growing ability to weigh in on the issues that Americans care about," reads the email, which carried the subject line of "Breaking News: Gov. John Kasich Joins CNN." "We expect to see him continue calling on Washington to end the non-stop politicking and actually do something to offer real solutions to America's challenges.

"With more interviews comes more things to share and grow Gov. Kasich's message and audience. We need to hit our monthly fundraising goals to ensure that we can fund these items."

The email linked to Kasich's Tuesday night appearance on CNN and then asked for donations to the Kasich for America PAC of either $25, $50, or $100.

Kasich served two terms as Ohio governor from 2011-2019. He briefly ran for president in the 2000 election before dropping out. During the 2016 presidential race, he won his own state's Republican primary before suspending his campaign in May of that year.

Kasich is now a senior political commentator for CNN, a paid role. He will also work as a senior fellow at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, an unsalaried, nonresearch position, according to a university statement.
