Boehner Video on His Job: I'm Like a Wind-Up Toy

By    |   Tuesday, 26 August 2014 06:24 PM EDT

House Speaker John Boehner released a video on Tuesday in which he says his job is like being a wind-up toy.

The video — "The Monkey in the Room" — starts with the Ohio Republican sitting in a chair holding a squeaking toy monkey clanging symbols on his lap.

"This is what sits on my coffee table in my office because this is me," Boehner says as the scene cuts to his playing with California Rep. Devin Nunes' three toddlers. "This is what I do all day. They wind me up about every 15 minutes."

Story continues below video.

The toy was a gift from Boehner's staff in November 2011, when he joked in an interview that some days he felt like a wind-up toy because of his heavy schedule as speaker.

The monkey is the second-most photographed item in Boehner's office, his office said in a news release.

"Every 15, 30 minutes, they come in and wind me up — and I do my thing," Boehner says at the end of the video.
