Jim McMahon — the legendary Chicago Bears star who became the first quarterback in the history of the Super Bowl to rush for two touchdowns — says he's turned to toking medical marijuana to ward off the severe health issues he's faced due to head trauma.

"This medical marijuana has been a godsend. It relieves me of the pain — or thinking about it, anyway," McMahon, 56, told The Chicago Tribune.

McMahon — who has early onset dementia and suffers depression, severe headaches and memory and vision loss — had a stellar 15-year career in the NFL, playing for the Bears, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.

In 1985, he led the Bears to a 46-10 win over New England in Super Bowl XX.

But multiple concussions and a broken neck McMahon suffered during hundreds of grinding tackles on the field took their toll. He has been taking prescription narcotic painkillers, but was able to get off them with the use of medical marijuana.
