Ivanka Trump on Sunday tweeted about the mass shooting in Florida, saying “our hearts are with Jacksonville and all those affected” by it.

Four people were killed and at least nine injured when a gunman opened fire at a downtown Jacksonville restaurant that was hosting a video game tournament. The shooting happened at The Landing entertainment and shopping complex; the Madden 2019 tournament was being held at the GLHF Game Bar.

The suspect, who police described as a white male, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound according to police.

President Donald Trump called Florida Gov. Rick Scott following the shooting, offering any federal help needed in response to the incident.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has tweeted updates about the shooting, including that the FBI and Bureau of Tobacco, Alcohol and Firearms were in contact and in coordination with local authorities to provide federal resources. He also called the situation, “horrifying.”

Former politician Gabrielle Giffords, a gun control advocate who was shot in 2011 during a constituent meeting held in a supermarket parking lot, called on Congress to “keep our kids safe.”

“The nation once again looks to Florida with grief and heavy hearts. The massacre in Jacksonville is yet another devastating indictment of this country's inability to keep our kids safe,” she said in a statement.

Several Democratic lawmakers joined her in calling for gun reform in light of the shooting, including Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, Joaquin Castro of Texas, Rep. Donald Payne Jr. of New Jersey, Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, among others.
