President Donald Trump said Tuesday impeachment will be a "positive" for him in the upcoming election, but at the same time, it would be "bad for the country" if House Democrats move ahead as expected.

"The country's doing the best it's ever done, and I just heard she'd like to impeach," Trump told reporters while at a meeting with during a meeting with Iraq President Barham Salih at the United Nations, adding it is a "continuation of the witch hunt" he has been under, reports The Hill.

"If [Pelosi] does that, they all say that's a positive for me in the election," he said. "You could also say who needs it. It's bad for the country."

He also pointed out Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., would be moving forward before she saw a transcript of a phone call with the president of Ukraine, in which it is claimed Trump pushed the newly elected leader in July into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

"The phone call was perfect," Trump said.

He has admitted speaking with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky about a week after ordering almost $300 million in military aid to the country to be put on hold, but he denies he pushed him for an investigation into the Bidens.

He did, however, admit Biden was mentioned, and said he held up the military funding for Ukraine in a bid to get more contributions from France and Germany to use for protection from Russian aggression.

Democrats, though, say Trump's play for foreign help to malign a political rival is proof of wrongdoing. Trump has agreed to release the transcript of the phone call Wednesday, but Democrats also want the whistleblower complaint that reportedly related to the call to be released as well.
