Hostages Released in Standoff at Indiana Prudential Office

Friday, 25 May 2012 05:41 PM EDT

Police say the gunman who was responsible for holding civilians hostage inside an Indiana Prudential real estate office has been taken to the hospital with self-inflicted gunshot wounds. The report comes shortly after police said that all hostages were out of the real estate office.

Valparaiso Police Sgt. Michael Grennes says there were fewer than 10 people in the building when officers received a call Friday morning reporting a man with a gun inside the Prudential Executive Group Real Estate office.

He says the last two hostages got out of the building within the past hour.

He says officers exchanged shots with the gunman when they arrived but has no reports of anyone being shot. One person was struck in the head during the incident but was treated and released at a hospital.

Grennes says negotiators are in contact with the gunman, who he says went to the business because of a dispute over money. Police didn't have further details about the dispute.
