Tea Party Petition to Prosecute Holder Nears 1 Million Signatures

By    |   Thursday, 11 Jul 2013 06:19 PM

A petition drive calling for the prosecution of Eric Holder has turned into a groundswell with nearly 1 million people signing on to the effort launched by a tea party group, the Washington Times Reported.

The petition drive by the Tea Party.net cites the U.S. Attorney's surveillance of Fox News and the Associated Press among its reasons for wanting a criminal case brought against the nation's top law enforcement officer.

"A person is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. That’s not the case, however, in Obama’s America when he needs to manipulate the people for his own political expediency. Who can he always rely on to be his hatchet man? None other than Attorney General Eric Holder. Do you stand with us in calling for Holder’s resignation and prosecution?" the Washington Times reports.

The group says that signing the petition automatically sends a letter to the signer's federal representatives. On the organization's website, theteaparty.net, organizers reported that as of yesterday afternoon, 988,006 had signed their petition calling for Holder’s prosecution.

People who have visited the group’s Facebook page blasted Holder on a wide range of issues from the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi to the Justice Department’s role in George Zimmerman trial.

"I still have not forgotten about Benghazi, and just what has been done — that’s right, nothing," Jeff Wainwright wrote.

Marylee Bender Tharp noted: "This is long over due. This man has blood on his hands, from way back."

"He thinks he is above the law!”

"I just read that this administration is helping to fun anti-Zimmerman ads," yet another commented.

The comment follows a report on Wednesday about how recently released federal records show that the Department of Justice's Community Relations Service dispatched staffers to Sanford, Fla., following the shooting of Trayon Martin by Zimmerman to help organize rallies and protests.

Calls for the prosecution of Holder follow bipartisan demands on Capitol Hill that he resign after it was reported that the Department of Justice had sought and acted on warrants to tap the phones of journalists at Fox News and the Associated Press.
